Yesterday , our school teachers shared their class rooms with each other to learn different ways of teaching . During the morning, Michelle and Peter, our Foreign English teachers, invited us all into the fourth and fifth periods for Level two classes nine and fourteen. The lesson plan of the Foreign English teachers was to conduct a debate on the subject of "Should we have homework Vs we shouldn`t have homework". During Peter`s class, there were three groups in each debating side. The debate began by the "for group" speaking in a strong manner for homework. The "against group" tried their best to convince everybody in the class room all that homework should not be allowed.. Everybody could feel the passion and conviction of each side of the debate. The arguments put by the two sides are as follows: The "for" group said it is: • Necessary to have high scores and homework helps achieve this • Very important to go to a good university • Important that our parents are satisfied, and proud, seeing us working hard at our studies • Lightening our teachers` burden • Preventing students from going into internet cafe's • Keeping students from getting into trouble outside the school world Arguments of the "againt group" were: • It makes the students very tired after a long day at school • Limits the time the students have for sport and outdoor activities. • Students are prevented from learning social skills and hobbies during their developing years. • Students in some high schools, who do not have homework, have an unfair physological advantage over students who must work hard all the time. It also means students can not spend time with their parents and family. • The difficulty in making friends when students had to do homework every night • Without so much homework life would be much easier and happier. The students spoke very good english, and the atmosphere in the class room was very intense, with lots of discussion from both sides of the debating teams.
