      His major research areas include pulsed power technology, plasma physics and fusion science and technology. He has conducted and participated in the research of three fusion experiment devices and finished upgrading one set of fusion device. In the project of the HL-1 device, he is responsible for the design of the overall electromagnetic system, pulsed power supply, control system and so on, and has creatively tackled many difficult problems. He has applied the fusion technology to industry and defense successfully and made great achievements, including the de-excitation of large-scale generator with zinc oxide non-linear resistance, tromagnetic launch, compensated pulsed alternator and etc. 
   
   Professor Pan has won many awards in the field of science and technology owing to his brilliant contributions, such as the First Grade National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, several first and second grade prizes issued by Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Nuclear Industry. Besides, he has won more then ten national patents, of which one was honored as excellent patent.

   Mr.Yang Chuanfang,(the first Gentleman on the right in the picture),had won the first grade Prize of Shipping Industry Sci-technological Improvement by COSCO( the China Ocean Shipping Company),the third grade prize of Sci-technological Improvement by Yunnan Provincial Government, the first grade prize of Sci-technological Improvement by Kunming Shipping Company. In 1993, he was entitled to Specific Governmental Allowance by the State Department .
